Supporting TobaGrown in the Constitutional Challenge

AnnouncementSurrey, BC ( May 3rd, 2021)

On October 17th, 2018, recreational cannabis became federally legal in Canada. In provinces and territories across the nation, the right to use, possess, and cultivate four cannabis plants quickly became liberties. Only two provinces, Manitoba and Quebec, chose to exclude their residents from the right to grow cannabis at home. But a year later, Quebec’s Superior Court Justice, Manon Lavoie, appealed the province’s ban on personal cultivation, arguing that the provincial law prohibiting Quebecers from growing cannabis for personal use was unconstitutional. Now, only Manitoba fights for the right to cultivate cannabis at home.

Following in the footsteps of Quebec’s appeal, Jesse Lavoie has organized TobaGrown – a committee that directly challenges Manitoba’s ban on homegrown cannabis. At GreenPlanet, we’ve always supported Canadian grower’s medicinal and legal right to cannabis cultivation: that’s why we fully support the mission of Jesse’s TobaGrown initiative. Manitoba is still the only Canadian province that continues to ban the personal cultivation of cannabis. However, with the help of TobaGrown, soon the cultivation prohibition will be another footnote in the long history of legalization.

Want to learn more about TobaGrown? Read the following passages for more information about how you can help Manitoba appeal the provincial ban on personal cannabis cultivation.

About TobaGrown

Headed by Jesse Lavoie, TobaGrown is a committee that seeks to challenge Manitoba’s ban on the personal cultivation of cannabis. Jesse is a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces and was employed as a Manitoban Corrections Officer for four years. As a result of suffering injuries during his public service, Jesse was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and prescribed cannabis as a treatment method.

Today, Jesse has substantially overcome his PTSD and physical injury, but still chooses to consume cannabis recreationally. He was recently employed as a key account manager and business developer at Canopy Growth, a globally recognized cannabis producer. The knowledge and skills that Jesse has acquired while working in the cannabis industry have led him to deeply understand the cultivation process. It’s not the easiest craft to master, but shouldn’t all Canadian’s possess the equal right to try? That’s what Jesse and his supporters believe – and at GreenPlanet, we fully support TobaGrown’s constitutional mission.

GreenPlanet Nutrients Supports TobaGrown’s Constitutional Challange

Constitutional challenges can be long and expensive. Jesse has been working tirelessly to gain support and funding across the nation. He has set a goal of $80,000 and has to date raised $10,500. Many industry influencers across the country have championed the cause in an effort to assist in fundraising and awareness. GreenPlanet Nutrients is lending a hand to help raise funds to mount a strong legal battle against the government.

In support of Jesse’s goal, we have pledged to donate 10% of the GreenPlanet Nutrients sales in Manitoba between the dates of May 1st – July 31, 2021, directly to TobaGrown.  If you choose to take part in this initiative, all you have to do is send us a sales report at the end of every month showing the unit sales and price sold on GreenPlanet Nutrients within that month and we will donate a cheque to TobaGrown on behalf of GreenPlanet Nutrients and your retail store. All Manitoban retailers who have a GreenPlanet Wholesale account are eligible to participate in this effort. Here is the list of retailers that have partnered with us in order to support Jesse’s constitutional battle:
